You're Invited to a Dinner for 8
It's time to sign up to be a part of "Dinner for Eight". This event will take place on Sunday, March 28th beginning at 5 p.m. Childcare will be offered at the church so that you can enjoy an evening with 8 wonderful people. Host homes will provide the main dish and guests will bring the rest of the meal. Sign up in the Connection Form on Sunday mornings or you can get more information by calling the church office at 860-464-7897. We hope that you will choose to be a part of this event as we seek to "Build Community" in 2010.
"Building Community" Theme for 2010
The Congregational Council adopted at their February meeting the theme of "Building Community" for 2010. We want to not only increase the size of our faith community but also strengthen the ties within it. Realizing what a diverse congregation St. Luke Lutheran is and that many folks simply don't know each other, the council asked the Fellowship Team to coordinate a DINNER FOR EIGHT program that will happen on Palm Sunday evening, March 28. It is hoped that the vast majority of members will participate in sharing a meal with eight others that night. The Fellowship Team will be responsible for pairing up the participants with host families. We want to mix everyone up so that early service people are with late service people. Long term members will be with newer members and so on.
In the Fall the Evangelism Team will sponsor a new course entitled "SIMPLY CHRISTIAN." It is a modern approach to explain the Christian faith especially to those who do not know it or might even be a little hostile toward it. The course will be offered in the evening which will include a meal, a short video presentation, and then discussion on the topic for the evening.
These are but two programs that are being specifically offered as part of the BUILDING COMMUNITY theme emphasis for 2010. Watch for more in the coming months.
New Small Groups Starting
There will be 5 new small groups staring the second week of May. There are 3 different groups the will be meeing on Monday night, one group on Tuesday night, and a group that will be meeting on Friday night. Following are the descriptions of the topics each group will be focusing on:
- Monday @ 6:30 p.m. Book Study and Spiritual Disciplines. This group meets each Monday night except for the first Monday of the month, childcare is provided.
- Monday @ 7 p.m. An indepth study and practice of Spiriual Diciplines, based on the book by Richard Foster. This group meets each Monday night except the first Monday of the month, no childcare provided.
- Monday @ 7 p.m. Book Study, "Jesus Brand Spirituality", by Ken Wilson. This group meets beginning May 18th and meets each week except the first Monday of the month.
- Tuesday @ 7 p.m. An indepth look at Spiritual Disciplines. This group meets each week except the first Tuesday of the month, childcare and study table for older youth provided.
- Friday @6:30 p.m. Book Study of, "The Power of the Praying Parent" as well as discussions of what it means to be a Christian parent in our culture today. This group share's a potluck meal together and then moves into small group time. Childcare is provided and the group meets on the 2nd and 4th Friday's of each month.
