In 2008 and 2009 St. Luke joined with members of Niantic Commnity Church and traveled to work at a small northern Honduran village of Chachguala. We worked at the local Episcopal Church, St. Margerita, and with the local public school. We helped with raising the roof of the church to improve ventilation, painted an adjoining apartment for a future deacon, and built a retaining wall to help reduce hillside water runoff from entering the church building. At the school we assembly and stained fifty new chair desks, painted the classrooms and the principal’s office. Each afternoon we offer a Bible School with stories, songs, and craft projects for the children of Chachaguala whose numbers grew to almost 200 by the end of the week.
