Jesus spoke briefly of his second coming: signs that would precede it, the end of the present age, the last judgement, and the new kingdom. In Revelation, the apostle John describes these topics in great detail, using powerful imagery to describe the end of the present world, the terrible destruction of the forces of evil, the majestic coming of the Son of Man, and the creation of a new heaven and earth where God will dwell with us forever. To the Christian, John's revelation is a message of hope and joy, and it is that joy with which this window is concerned. The forces of evil have been overcome, and a radiant new kingdom has been established--filled with light and joy, presided over by God and the Lamb. Revelation 21:2-4 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." |
